I sure hope this isn't as bad as it looks

Conservative columnist Robert Novak writes a story about Nigergate and Wilson's trip to Niger that includes this little tidbit:

Wilson never worked for the CIA, but his wife, Valerie Plame, is an agency operative on weapons of mass destruction. Two senior administration officials told me his wife suggested sending Wilson to Niger to investigate the Italian report. The CIA says its counter-proliferation officials selected Wilson and asked his wife to contact him. ''I will not answer any question about my wife,'' Wilson told me.
An "agency operative"?!? Does this mean a pair of senior administration officials just out Wilson's wife to get back at him? As a warning to others? You've got to be kidding me... Read more:

Zinni's ten conditions

Before the war, Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni (ret) made a list of ten conditions required "to make any military action to turn out in the best possible way". Let's see how it went...

  1. the coalition is in. Nope (not a meaningful one anyway)
  2. the war is short. Yup (thankfully)
  3. destruction is light. Yup (precision weapons are pretty good these days. Of course it also appears that a significant portion of the enemy just decided to wait until the war was "over")
  4. Israel is out. Yup
  5. the street is quiet. Yup (for all the hand-wringing over Al Jezerra, it doesn't appear that anyone wants to be the "next Iraq")
  6. order is kept. Nope (who thought there'd be looting?)
  7. burden is shared. Nope (we'd have to ask for help. and mean it)
  8. the change is orderly. Nope (plan? but the war was too short. yeah, that's the ticket)
  9. the military is not stuck. Nope (things may change. but i feel for the guys who certainly feel stuck over there)
  10. other commitments are met. Nope (Afghanistan anyone?)
Good thing this isn't one of those standardized tests, huh? A score of 40% would probably keep President Bush back a grade and limit him to only invading island countries...
